Timeflies Freestyles with Patients at Seacrest Studios in Dallas

Pop/hip-hop duo Timeflies visited Seacrest Studios at Children’s Medical Center of Dallas during a promotional tour. Cal Shapiro and Rob “Rez” Resnick dished about their past, answered questions from patients, and performed a soulful version of their hit single “I Choose You”.

Cal and Rez met at Tufts University in Boston, where they both attended college. At that time, the shower was the place Cal preferred to sing. “I was way too shy to sing in public,” Cal said. “He [Rez] heard me doing something and said, ‘You should probably come sing for my band.’ We won a competition and got to open for Ludacris, and then from there, we were like ‘Let’s do it!’”

Cal is now the lead vocalist and freestyler for the group, while Rez is the producer and beat mastermind. Both play multiple instruments, which make up their unique sound. “Every guitar, drums, or piano that would be in a rock band, I have played before,” Rez said. “A lot of what we do is computerized.” Timeflies will release their second album at the end of the summer.

The duo answered a round of “hot-seat” questions from one of the patients. We learned that their favorite cereals are Lucky Charms and Honey Nut Cheerios, their celebrity crushes are Taylor Swift and Amanda Bynes, and they each have a couple of quirky habits. Rez shaves his head on his fire escape, and Cal bites his nails. The highlight of their visit came when Cal took a list of words from patients in the studio and used them to freestyle in their performance of “I Choose You.”

Thanks, Timeflies, for such a fun and upbeat visit!
