Olivia Holt Visits Levine Children’s Hospital!

Recap & video by studio intern: Jacqueline Malone

While on tour with the Backstreet Boys, Olivia Holt visited Charlotte’s Levine Children’s Hospital! She was greeted by a full house at Seacrest Studios and started out her visit by answering fun patient questions from the famous fish bowl.  When asked what cartoon character she identified with, Olivia answered, “This is gonna sound very odd but Hello kitty. I love Hello, I have seen almost every single episode of Hello Kitty.  And I think that she just likes going on adventures, and I think that’s like my life, and my journey.”  When asked what Disney character she would be, Olivia said, “I would play Rapunzel in Tangled for sure. If they were making a live action I would be Rapunzel.”  When asked why Olivia said, “One, she has a great sense of humor and down for anything, sassy but fun and has these weird quirks about her that is relatable, and she’s just cool.”   Olivia was also “dared” to do a choregraphed model walk down the pretend Seacrest Studios runway and worked the catwalk posing with one of our patients!

Olivia and her fans began playing “Finish the Christmas Lyrics.”  Each patient had the opportunity to finish singing the lyrics that was missing from the song.  From Jingle Bell Rock to Rocking Around the Christmas Tree, Olivia and the patients sang their hearts out, bringing in holiday cheer.

Afterwards, each patient and Oliva had a total of 30 seconds to draw their best holiday character on a candy cane or gingerbread.  Each person showed their artistic talents and had loads of giggles when they saw each other’s art.

Using the green screen, everyone had to grab their dancing shoes and did a special version of our Friday program, Seacrest Idol!  Olivia and her fellow dancers got loose and copied all the moves to the song “That Power” by Justin Bieber & on Just Dance.  At one point Olivia said, “I might just do my own!”, free styling with her own great moves! With huge smiles on the faces and the green screen in the background, everyone in the hospital was able to see their dancing performance live on their digital stage!

While wrapping up her visit, Olivia took pictures and autographs with her fans.  She learned about a special patient that wasn’t able to come down to the studio for her visit.  To accommodate her fan, Olivia went upstairs and personally visited sweet Jesslie in her room!  Jesslie has become well known and loved in this hospital. She said that all she wanted was “to see her hero that was downstairs”. It was truly a Christmas miracle for this sweet girl.

Olivia’s visit kicked off the holidays right at LCH and brought such joy to our precious patients. We were so thankful to have such a bright, friendly, and loving person in our studio!

Midnight Red Creates Smiles At Seacrest Studios.

At the strike of . . . Midnight Red . . . Seacrest Studios Charlotte was filled with excitment!  The all male, five-member music group, Midnight Red, took Levine Children’s Hospital by storm when they made an appearance during their radio tour across the country.  Quickly charming the patients who gathered, and entertaining the crowd with their incredible harmony, the boys of Midnight Red talked about Ryan Seacrest coming to them in a dream, and what kind of things fans throw on stage during their concerts.  Squeals of delight went up when Eric, Thomas, Anthony, Colton, and Joey discovered the studio cameras and did a little of their own filming!

Seacrest Studios resonated with the harmonies of these five young men as they sang several hits, including their new single, Take Me Home.  Performing with New Kids On The Block and Backstreet Boys in 2011 really put Midnight Red on the map, but appearing at Levine Children’s Hospital solidified their place in our hearts.  We confess, we’re all “Redheads” now!

Thanks, guys, for the autographs, pictures, laughter, songs, and hugs.

Midnight Red Performs Take Me Home at Seacrest Studios

The boys of Midnight Red stopped by Seacrest Studios at Children’s Medical Center of Dallas while wrapping up the POP Explosion Tour. The All-American boy band is made up of five talented guys – Anthony Ladao, Thomas Augusto, Eric Secharia, Colton Rudloff, & Joey Diggs Jr.  The band opened up about life in the spotlight and performed several songs, including their new single “Take Me Home”.

In the midst of a boy band resurgence, Midnight Red has captured hearts across the nation. Some consider them “America’s answer to One Direction” – a compliment they are happy to accept. “To be spoken in the same breath as them is an honor, because they are very very successful and we look up to that success,” Rudloff said.  The group said they use their dance moves to set themselves apart from other boy bands.
Midnight Red formed after Ladao and Secharia met through their voice coach. They reached out to the other members and quickly earned a spot opening for the New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys tour in 2011.  Since then, they have attracted tons of fans who call themselves the “Red Heads”.  “We have lots of love for them,” Rudloff said.
The charming quintet finished their visit with a few acoustic songs and wished one of their own a Happy Birthday.  Thank you Midnight Red for stopping by the studio – and thank you Joey for spending your birthday with us!

Jesse McCartney Visits Seacrest Studios And Talks About Music, Acting & His Celebrity Crush!

Actor and music star Jesse McCartney stopped by the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia to visit with patients and to talk about his new music.  Jesse, who is currently touring with DJ Pauly D and the Backstreet Boys, just recently released a new single called “Back Together.”  Known for his mega hits “Beautiful Soul” and “Leavin,’” Jesse is excited to be performing some new material, which he believes is “fresh..and something the fans haven’t heard before.” After a patient asked Jesse to sing “Beautiful Soul,” Jesse was nice enough to give us an impromptu performance as well as a reenactment of his favorite dance moves!

As well as being a music superstar, Jesse has also acted on TV and in movies. “I love all mediums: acting, singing, writing; it’s my favorite.”  He let us know that one of his most favorite moments of his career (so far) was voicing the character of Theodore in the “Alvin and the Chipmunks” movies. “I grew up watching the Chipmunks, my parents grew up watching the Chipmunks, and it’s really become a mutigenerational classic. I remember as a kid sitting on the couch with my huge bowl of cereal watching the Chipmunks, so it’s really become a sort of benchmark moment for me.” He even graced us with a sample Chipmunk voice and explained the process of voice recording. Jesse also had a starring role in the hit television show “Summerland” which definitely left a lasting impact on one patient who shared his endearing story of being named after Jesse’s character!

Patients then asked Jesse about some of his “favorite things.” Jesse talked about his favorite music and movies, his love for baseball, his snacking habits and even his celebrity crush (Mila Kunis)! His loving fans were quick to squash that subject though when they proposed marriage to their favorite heartthrob.  Jesse also let us know that he has been (and hopes to continue) writing with rock band Hot Chelle Rae on some new material. We definitely look forward to that!

We thank Jesse for taking the time to talk with us about his awesome career and we look forward to all of his future work! We hope he visits again soon!
Thank you, Kevin Gordon, for this great recap!

DJ Pauly D Stops By Seacrest Studios To Talk About Music, Pizza and Hair!

The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia welcomed ‘Jersey Shore’ star DJ Pauly D on Friday, August 16th to Seacrest Studios. Patients and guests hung out with Pauly D, asking him fun questions about his exciting life on the road while getting a chance to snag some autographs and pictures (with him) too!

Pauly D, who is currently on a six week tour with Jesse McCartney and The Backstreet Boys, admits he loves traveling all over the country, mostly so he can try new foods!

“The best part about traveling the world is tasting the pizza in town,” Pauly said. His favorite place to grab a cheesy slice? “Chicago has great pizza!”

Although he confesses to not being the best chef around, Pauly’s refrigerator at home is still super organized.  “The labels are all turned forward perfectly, It’s like a commercial!”

Besides his love for food, patients were curious to know about Pauly D’s famous spiky hairstyle.

“It’s a process, it really is!,” Pauly said, explaining he uses his own special gel and blow drying technique that takes 25 minutes. He also told patients that one final coat of hairspray at the end will do the trick!

So how does DJ Pauly D keep his hair looking good all day long? For one thing, he keeps his headphones upside-down on his ears, showing some of our patient DJ’s how to hold them in place and use a shoulder to keep them on! He even kept his upside-down for his entire visit to the studio!

While he shared lots of his awesome DJ tips, Pauly D also told guests about how he started his successful career.

“My first DJ gig that I did, ever, was a sweet 16. I was nervous!” Pauly confessed. But after making a name for himself as the ‘Birthday DJ’ in his hometown in Rhode Island, word got out about his great style and catchy mixes!

Besides his passion for being a DJ, patients asked questions about his experience on the popular television show ‘Jersey Shore’.

“It was probably one of the coolest things I’ve ever done in my life,” Pauly said, telling the studio about his first experience on television. He also talked about the craziness of having cameras and microphones around him every day! “You don’t have time to do anything!”

He did, however, have time to ride lots of rides at the Jersey Shore boardwalks while filming the show. Pauly told patients about his love for thrill rides, including roller coasters and a spinning ball ride that shoots you high up in the air. “My hair doesn’t even move on that ride!” Pauly said.

Pauly finished up his awesome visit with a few fun questions. His celebrity crush?

“Nicki Minaj, she’s dope!” Pauly said. He also told patients that he would love to play a superhero like Superman or Iron Man in a movie.

“My outfit would have to be like Batman, something black and gold, and I want to be able to fly instead of taking planes!” Pauly said.

What’s next for Pauly D? A few awesome collaborations with popular artists. Pauly even told patients he would love to work with artists like Rihanna and Drake.

We wish DJ Pauly D good luck on his tour and look forward to hearing some of his new music this fall. Many thanks for stopping by Seacrest Studios at CHOP!

Thank you to Erica DePascale for this great recap!
