Jason Mraz performs “Have It All” for patients at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta!

Singer-songwriter Jason Mraz showed up at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta with his all-female back-up singers to perform for patients and families in Seacrest Studios recently. Jason makes positivity a priority and it was evident from his visit!  He was so much fun, joking with and encouraging patients, living up to the lyrics in his song, “Have It All.”

We learned he has performed on every continent and his favorite place was Myanmar, where he sang for over 70,000 people even though it was illegal (until then) to have gatherings over twelve! Jason even taught us a phrase from Myanmar that inspired his song, “Have It All!” When a patient asked Mraz if he had ever forgotten his lyrics while on stage he mentioned one of his band members gave him the following piece of advice…”Say MEOW in place of the forgotten lyrics!”  Then Jason admitted he had been “meowing” at one of his recent concerts! Thank you for such a great visit Jason!

AJ Mitchell performs for patients at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta

Fresh off his performance on the TODAY show, singer songwriter and social media sensation, AJ Mitchell, popped into Seacrest Studios and performed for patients at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta! Here to promote his new EP, Hopeful, the 17-year old talked about how exciting the last couple of years have been since moving from his small town in Illinois to Los Angeles to pursue his career as a recording artist and songwriter.

Having started piano at age four, it was no surprise to his parents that by age six, Mitchell has already written his first song — featuring a little bird. He even sang a verse or two before performing “I Don’t Want You back” and “Girls,” both on his debut EP. AJ hopes to go on tour next year, and we hope Atlanta will be one of his stops! Best of luck to this rising star, and thank you for visiting us in Seacrest Studios!

Miss USA, Sarah Rose Summers, visits Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta!

And the winner is….

Seacrest Studios at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta! We scored big time with a visit from the beautiful and talented, Miss USA 2018, Sarah Rose Summers! Just two moths into her reign as Miss USA, Sarah Rose felt right at home in a hospital setting – a place she’d become familiar with earlier in her career as a certified Child Life Specialist. She was an instant favorite among patients and families.

She encouraged questions from the audience, citing it was “practice” for her upcoming Miss Universe pageant in December, and for the “talent portion” of the visit, Sarah Rose promptly volunteered to learn – and participate in –  the popular dance move coined “the floss” with an excited patient.

Many pictures, autographs, hugs and smiles later Sarah Rose is headed back to NYC. Thank you so much for visiting Seacrest Studios a second time! We are honored you want to visit all ten, and cannot wait to cheer you on in the Miss Universe pageant!

Blake Cooper Stops By Seacrest Studios at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta!

Actor, Blake Cooper returned to Seacrest Studios at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta recently and shared a special advanced screening of his new movie, Measure of A Man. Blake stars as a bullied teen who experiences a turning-point summer in which he learns to stand up for himself.  The Atlanta native revealed what it was like to share screen time with the great Donald Sutherland and other fun facts about shooting the film in Rhode Island. Blake admitted he’s his own worst critic when it comes to watching himself in theaters, but his young fans in the studio gave him TWO THUMBS UP for his latest performance!  In preparation for his next role where he landed the lead character in the family movie drama, Chance, Blake had to endure many hours in a hair salon going from brunette to blonde! He’s headed to Cincinnati to begin filming but we can’t wait to have this talented and kind-hearted star back home and in the studio again to share more of his adventures with us!

R5 Gives Patients Advice About Following Their Dreams!

Written by Seacrest Studios Intern: Brittany Wade

Patients and families welcomed R5 to our Seacrest Studios at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta! During their interview, they talked about how the fans love their new, self-produced album, and they said the best part about being in a band with your siblings is being with each other all the time. Ross talked about how much fun he had on the set of “Austin and Ally” while also making music with the band.

R5 performed their hits “If” and “Smile.” The band even invited a patient to sing a song from “Austin and Ally” with them! When asked for any advice they would give to our little stars in the hospital, they replied, “Practice hard and play because you love it.” Patients loved getting to meet and take pictures with the band. We loved having R5 in the studio and we look forward to their next visit!

DanTDM Visits Seacrest Studios Atlanta & Talks Minecraft!

You Tube Star, DanTDM  hopped across the pond from his British home to visit excited patients at Seacrest Studios in Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta… and it seemed like almost all of his 15 million subscribers were in attendance! Okay, so not all 15 million…but suffice it to say  the majority of the patient population at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta are Minecraft aficionados and were thrilled to meet The Diamond Minecart live and in person!

Dan couldn’t have been nicer! He spent the majority of his time answering patient questions, and taking game/video suggestions willingly. He even made patients part of his daily vlog! Aside from missing his wife, Jemma, and his pugs, DanTDM is happy to be touring the United States and meeting his fans while performing before sold out shows. We’re so grateful he made Seacrest Studios Atlanta one of his stops!

RSF SPOTLIGHT: Meet Our Atlanta Studio Manager

We’re shining the spotlight on some of the amazing people that help make our Seacrest Studios around the country so special.

Wendy is the studio manager at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (our first studio!) and has been with Seacrest Studios since the very first day we opened.

More about Wendy, in her own words:

  • How long you have worked at Seacrest Studios: I’ve worked at Seacrest Studios since the first studio was born – November 5, 2010
  • Favorite thing (game/activity, etc.) you do in studio: My absolute favorite thing to do is connecting, one-on-one with each patient (whether through a game or just simple conversation).
  • Most memorable studio guest (and why): My most memorable studio guest would have to be actor, CHRIS PRATT – because he called ahead to find out how many patients were in the hospital at the time because he wanted to personally send over a Jurassic World toy to each and every patient. He sent over boxes and boxes of toys ahead of time so they would be here when he came. He handed one out to every single person, along with hugs, fist bumps and high fives!
  • Special hidden talent (if you have one): I can juggle!

Thank you Wendy, for your dedication to our studio in Atlanta and for making SO many patients happy over the years. We are lucky to have you as part of the RSF family!

The Wicked Witch & Tin Man Visit Seacrest Studios Atlanta

Video by: Barbara Rego (former Seacrest Studios intern)

Patients at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta eagerly awaited the arrival of the Wicked Witch and the Tin Man  – as the live production of The Wizard of Oz blew into town.

We learned that the Wicked Witch isn’t wicked at ALL!…in fact, Shani Hadjian, who plays the Wicked Witch of the West, Ms. Gulch, charmed everyone with stories of what happened when she forgot a line in the middle of the show, started to giggle on stage from something a young audience member yelled, and the magic of how she “melts!” Jay McGill, who plays the Tin Man, confessed that Stage Fright is real (he’s had it!), and bragged that he can do an entire costume/make-up change in two minutes (because he has to!)  The actors fielded patient questions left and right which made for a wonderful afternoon. And in the end, it was unanimous….”There’s NO PLACE like Seacrest Studios!”

Many thanks for their wonderful visit!

DNCE Returns To Seacrest Studios Atlanta For A Second Visit

Patients were very excited to welcome DNCE  to Seacrest Studios at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta for their second visit. Our interns chatted with the band about what they’ve been up to since their last visit and Joe, Jinjoo, Cole and Jack told everyone that Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta is always the highlight of their day. Since we last saw them, DNCE performed in Grease Live! in January, released a new single and music video, and appeared at numerous award shows.  They’re currently touring with Selena Gomez on her US Revival Tour until July 8.

The band discussed their favorite parts of touring and how ecstatic they were when their huge hit Cake By The Ocean went double platinum recently.  Jinjoo and Joe shared their love of SnapChat filters and Cole said Fantasia is his most favorite Disney movie. When asked if he “could eavesdrop on a conversation between any two people, who would it be?” Joe responded, “the Ninja Turtles.” That was followed by one very young patient giving Joe his own Ninja Turtle figure. Joe promptly put it in his pocket!

Some patients asked about the origin of the band name, and Cole shared that it was actually a typo that turned into a huge success.  DNCE even wished a Happy Birthday to one lucky patient…talk about a great birthday present!

After the interview, the group signed posters for the patients and took photos with everyone. We love when DNCE visits us and we can’t wait for them to stop by again.

Emblem3 Performs 3 Of Their Hits For Patients In Seacrest Studios Atlanta

Emblem3 felt the love from patients at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta when they performed an acoustic set of “End o Of The Summer”, “Chloe”, and “XO” in Seacrest Studios.

The band asked patients for their song requests from their latest EP and then sang snippets from each one. The fun-loving guys with a knack for freestyling were put to the test to create a couple of verses using random words drawn out of a hat. They didn’t disappoint!  Using “Kanye”, “guacamole”, “flip flop” and “cheese,” Emblem3 whipped up a rap fans couldn’t believe!

And in the Q&A, patients may or may not have learned who inspired their hit song “Chloe” and if a Kardashian Christmas party had anything to do with it! Hmmm. We’ll leave you to wonder! Thank you Emblem3 for an amazing visit to Seacrest Studios Atlanta. Until next time!
